Sketch n Scrap - Red White & Blue Crop

I haven't done much scrapping this month... it's been a very slow month for me... only managed about 6 singles and sneaked in two doubles over the last two days. But some of the scrapping I did do was for the online crop at Sketch n Scrap.

Challenge 1 - I used my new celebrate die that I got in June... love how the yellow just pops.

Guest Designer- Decided to be a bit adventurous with my layout and added some ink to the background before using a JustNick cut file for my circle and title. I used Celebr8 papers on this layout.

I am super chuffed that I managed to get these pages done for this online crop seeing as I wasn't up to scrapping much this month. Now I I best get cracking in August as I have a whole host of design team layouts due pretty soon.

ScrapPlezier - School Is Cool

It's still school holidays but only just... it all starts again tomorrow.

This layout follows on to the one I shared earlier this month... it shows the rest of the initiation days.

This layout is based on a Jowilna original.

I used some new and old Kaisercraft school themed papers for my layout. I really love the numbers paper from the newish Documented collection. This was my start of my page. I left the barcode attached and incorporated it into my design. The cards on the left page were all leftovers from previous school layouts that I have done. I made a rosette for the right page and topped it with a sticker. Also added some buttons and stitching.

And look at that... a third layout for the day. Yes it's been a busy Design Team Reveal Day.

I only found enough pics to do one side of the sketch... Just shows again that you mustn't limit yourself to the sketch as a whole but think of all the possibilities.

Off The Rails - July Moodboard - Coldness

This month's moodboard fits right in with the winter season... brrrrr. It seems that the cold has finally arrived and might be here to stay. Though I do feel a bit chilly I am not complaining (at least I hope not!). I'd rather put on another layer in the winter than swelter in the summer. And scrapping next to a roaring fire over the weekend is the perfect plan too.

 I chose to scrap adorable photos of my great-nephew from two years ago, all dressed up for this chilly weather.

ScrapPlezier - July Moodboard

We have a gorgeous moodboard to play with this month and I was inspired to scrap some pretty flower photos. This warms things up a bit on the cold grey wintery days we're having this week.

This is a Jowilna original inspired page... I loved trying my hand at the various techniques she used. The little squares at the top of the page are created by applying texture paste through a stencil onto white cardstock. Once dry I then dipped the paper into various pink inks. Once all together dry the big piece was cut up into little squares and then added to the layout. It makes for a very interesting feature.

Next is the stamping.... I got to play with my brand new Versafine Clair inks.... oooh these stamp sooooooo nicely. I stamped the green flower stems in lime green and then the flowers in pink and chianti. Each stamp is stamped twice...once with the full ink and then once with the leftovers, to create a lighter stamp. It gives a lovely differentiation on the colours and I feel that it lends itself to the actual flowers in my photos.

I added some Kaisercraft papers in the same pinks and greens to bring everything together. Then added lots of hand stitching in white thread. My title is from Celebr8 and this I heat embossed with lime green embossing powder.

Christmas in July Quilling

I've been keeping myself occupied over the last few months by doing quite a bit of quilling during the evenings in front of the tv.  I am slowly making stock of Christmas goodies so that I can hopefully have stuff to sell later in the year (but these are of course for sale at any time you want).

ScrapPlezier - Initiation

Yes we are on school holidays, but that doesn't mean the scrapping stops and as I am still trying to scrap photos from 3 years ago, today it's the turn of a school inspired page.

This page is inspired from a Jowilna original.

I started my page with doing some stencil stamping. This is done by adding ink to the stencil, then spritzing with water and using the stencil as a stamp on the page. I used some blue and red distress inks to pick up the colours in the photos.  I then added bits and pieces of various scraps on hand to add interest to the layout. These papers and stickers are all from different collections and  not even school themed, but they all lend themselves to the layout. Finally I cut out my title on my Silhouette machine.

Just an extra note for those not sure what Initiation is or what it involves:
 Initiation is a right of passage tradition that people go through to join a school, club or group. It's not common practice (thank goodness!) and should be fun.

So to introduce the grade 8s to high school, the matrics made them dress differently each day for a week. At the end of the week they shared doughnuts together and life returned to normal. This is the only time Aaron has had to go through this and hopefully won't happen again.

I only had it happen to me when I went to college and we had to do all sorts of weird things... plus being over 18 they tried to make us drink all sorts of concoctions... I just simply refused.

As I didn't have enough photos for the sketch, I decided just to do a single page. Also I replaced one photo with a diecut.

I dug around in my scrap stash for some blue/grey papers and found the SEI papers with the words on it.... remember them? I loved scrapping all their albums in a box.... not that I ever put in photos in them!
