Sketches: Creatively Yours... layout 5

Another week and another sketch layout done.... this one was fun for me as I did some paper piecing to match my theme....

Look what I won....

hehhee.... I seem to be saying that a lot lately!!!   Today was Aaron's school's Passion4Wheels festival... more on that in another post.... but I just HAD to show you what I won in the raffle....

And while the cake was being fetched from the fridge, the MC was giving out hints....
1 The name of person who won this starts with a C.... "that's ME!" says I
2 The second letter is an A..... "that's ME!" says I again
3 The third letter is a T.  And no it doesn't spell CAT..... again I laugh and say "That's ME!"
4. The fourth letter is an H...... by now I know I stand a HUGE chance of it being ME.
and then he calls my name.... I was jumping .... yippeee..... I simply LOVE chocolate.

Here I am receiving my prize from Mr Norel, the Principal.

mmmmmmmmmmmm..... it's brown, covered in strawberries and chocolates.

As soon as we got home I had a slice.... yummy...... mmmmmmmmm think I might just go have another slice quickly.

ps.... a cake like this I'm sure would cost over R100 and I just paid for two tickets at R5 each.... well worth it don't you think?

Holding thumbs....

I stuck my neck out this week and decided to apply for the Kaisercraft Design Team.  Please hold thumbs for me as I would absolutely LOVE to use their product and design for them.

So far the only time I've used Kaisercraft products has been at Convention or when I bought it in a kit... these are what I had made in the past....

So I had a bit of a challenge to do for this submission.  I used lots of leftovers for my 2 beyond-the-page items but you will have to wait till I hear "yay"/"nay" before I can show you.  For my layouts, I submitted some of my previous ones which I thought would show my style of scrapping... hope they will be okay.

Just to prove that I do do more than scrap, I decided to share with you three books that I've read within the last month...

first up.... John Grisham's The Innocent Man

This novel is based on a true story..... boy oh boy did it get me thinking!  We all know that our jails here in South Africa are horrid and overcrowded, but this book just shows that it is not only here that we have problems.  I don't think I would EVER like to land up in jail in America either.... the conditions do not sound nice plus the justice system is full of flaws.  It's not at all as portrayed by the tv programmes like Law & Order or CSI.... that's Hollywood.

Secondly I read.... Dick Francis' To The Hilt

A really good mystery in which the hero gets beaten up within the first few pages and triumphs over all evil by the end of the book.  Based in good ol' Scotland with lots of cold castles plus Dick Francis' signature horseracing.... this was a very quick read.

And this morning I just finished.... Dick Francis' Second Wind

Now this one does have horses in it, but is really all about a hurricane and finding people who are selling uranium and plutonium.... stuff needed to make bombs.  Another good mystery with a few twists and turns.  Written in the age before digital cameras and cellphones!

So if you haven't yet read any of these, get your hands on them and enjoy a good read.  All links above are to my favourite online bookstore... www.take2.co.za - it's like having Amazon in South Africa.

Challenge 15 - Monochromatic layout using outdoor photos

This layout posed an interesting challenge.... The title is a rub-on from Karen Foster from out of my stash.... but it WON'T rub on!  so I solved this problem by first rubbing some glue on the back of the rub-on and then rubbing it on to the layout... hey presto it stuck!  If this hadn't worked I would have resorted to dimensional glaze over it.... hehe  I was very determined to use this rub-on as it was perfect for my layout.

I have about seven more challenges planned that need to be finished before Monday... but I'm not too sure how many of them I will actually get done... let's wait and see.

I'm a few pages behind on my layout-a-day goal but not too stressed... keep them coming... eating this elephant one bite at a time!

I can't believe it....

what you might ask?  Well how stupid/incompetent some people/organisations are!

I won a prize in April from a quilling website and I'm STILL awaiting my prize.... not because they haven't sent it, but because our dear postal service can't deliver it!!!!  The company had insisted on a physical address for delivery so I used our work one as someone is always here.... but the silly post office evidently sent the parcel to Kensington... I'm in Bryanston!!! and as they couldn't deliver it, the parcel has now gone back to customs and sent back to USA!!!  So now???? Well I sit and wait and hope that the sender will resend it to me.... another two month wait I guess... urgh!!!!!!

Okay now that that is off my chest I feel a bit better.  Think I'll scrap my frustration away this afternoon.

I think I deserve a medal...

It's our FIFTEENTH wedding anniversary today.



Don't know that we will be doing anything special to celebrate though... but it is a milestone none the less.

Looking up gift ideas this is what I found:

Crystal is the primary material for the fifteenth anniversary with glass as the modern material and watches as the alternate modern choice.

And then further down the list there were gift ideas and the one that tickled my fancy was:
15 French chocolates

But if you know me well enough... ANY chocolates would do... hehehe.

More Lets Scrap challenges

I've been working through the challenges at Let's Scrap... having lots of fun.... here's what I've created:

NSD#6 - layout about crosswords

NSD#9 - layout about flowers and use handmade flowers for embellishments

I did a second layout for this challenge too...

The flowers on this one are all done in quilling.

NSD#2 - catch up on old challenges.... so I did the following

Challenge1 - do a layout about fish and
Challenge2 - use 4 patterned papers

Challenge5 - do layout in under 1 hour... this one took me 50 minutes
Challenge2 - use 4 patterned papers

I've still got a few more planned which I hope to have finished before the deadline of May 31... so reckon it will be another scrappy weekend!

Sketches: Creatively Yours... layout 4

This week's sketch is up as well as the design teams' layouts.... go check it out here.  This is my layout for the week:

I turned the sketch on it's side to accommodate my portrait photos.  For embellishement I used some school stuff from free paper received in the Australian Scrapbook Memories magazine from a few years back.

More bloghop layouts

Let's Scrap bloghop is nearly over and I've managed to complete all the layout challenges... here are my last two:

Bloghop 8 - create a travel inspired layout and use one of the supplied quotes.

These photos were taken on Mother's Day last week... aren't you impressed (?) I have actually scrapped CURRENT photos!  And even more impressive it's not just one layout but two... the other one is the actual photos to commemorate Mother's Day (see below).

Bloghop9 - use the sketch provided and do some sewing... by machine/hand/drawn

I did only hand-drawn sewing... to much to do by hand and I can't unpack my machine yet as the table is covered in stuff that still needs to be sorted after the repainting of my scraproom!

So that's the bloghop challenges done.  Now to complete the rest of the NSD challenges.... here is one of them...

NSD#10 - create a layout about mothers and a card from the leftover scraps

I cut a piece of pink card from the back of the photo to use as the base of my card, scalloped the one edge and used leftover patterned paper to decorate the front and inside.

This is the card open... I'm still trying to decide on the actual "sentiment" of the card and will finish it properly when I give it to someone.

Let's Scrap challenge #5

I've decided that for the month of May I will do as many of the challenges at Let's Scrap.  Well this weekend I managed to tackle my first one.... make a card from the sketch provided, include a handmade basket and decorate the inside..... This is what I came up with

I did a bit of iris folding and then cut out butterflies and doodled.... had lots of fun making this one.

Seeing as it was Mother's Day yesterday I decided to give the card to my Mom for Mother's Day... she phoned this morning to say Thank You again as she loved it sooooooooooo much.

Let's Scrap challenges & blog hop

There is another blog hop and month long challenges going on at Let's Scrap.  I'm going to attempt to do most of the challenges this month... wish me luck.

Each of the design team blogs have a challenge and a prize... plus there is an overall prize... really sounds like lots of fun.

This was a lot of fun.  I didn't win any of the prizes but it was a great way to pass the time.
