Stick It Down - May challenge

I found another sketch blog that I decided to follow... their May sketch caught my eye and I've spent bits of the last few weeks working on this layout... eventually got around to adding my journalling this morning.

All the papers I used are from the amazing stash I received from Jeaunes... wonderful Kaisercraft papers in all colours and patterns. It sure is helping my scrapping mojo to work in overdrive!

And here is a perspective shot of how much I got... the pile on the left is about 5cm high... all the new stuff. The pile on the right is the Kaisercraft papers I owned.

So now that I have loads of papers to scrap with, best I get cracking.

Sketch n Scrap Birthday Scrapping

I am part of the Sketch n Scrap group on Facebook. They are celebrating their 5th birthday this month with sketches and challenges all month long. Well I decided to do a few and this is the results.

The sketch for this has a wreath on it... so I used a cut file and then added some twine for a few more circles.

I did their monthly sketch for May and also combined with a challenge for Scrapbook Generations. On this page I used some of my new acquired Kaisercraft stash (Thanks Jeaunes)

It was good to get two layouts done and being able to combine them for a few challenges.

Creating patchwork

I love to sew and I love paper...so trying to combine two hobbies on one page is sometimes a good idea and sometimes a little crazy. For quite a while I have seen quite a few "patchwork"type layouts on pinterest and I keep saving them for "one day when". Well that day came and I finally decided to create my own version of a patchwork layout from one I had seen.

I pulled together scraps of papers in the colours from my photos. Then I used a diecut to make the hexagons before using some simple maths and cutting squares and triangles to fill the spaces... some more successfully than others!

Once the page was all stuck down, I added a few buttons and then my photo and title. The last part of my page was hand stitching all around the "circle" shapes. This just finished things off nicely.

Will I do this again? Probably! Should I? Probably Not! It's a great way to use up scraps but is VERY time consuming... the patchwork took me most of a day to do... between dithering on colours to cutting shapes to arranging and rearranging it all. At least it is done.

ScrapPlezier - Trouble

My layout is up on the ScrapPlezier blog again today... a simple page using one piece of pattern paper from the Kaisercraft Jungle Bugs collection.

On my layout I cut the border of the pattern paper and then laid this over a piece of orange cardstock to form the background,I then cut the squares that were on the inside of this piece into strips and used them to create banners across the page. I also used some of the words and then punched and diecut some stars.

The last piece for my page is the circle...this is made using shaving cream and reinkers to create a marble effect...I learnt this in a class with Jowilna... just adds an interesting piece to the page.

Trying something new

In the last issue of Scrap Affairs there is a competition from Shortcut Crafts.... all about stitching and stamping. Well of course I decided to make a layout for this.

I also decided though to not just do the normal stitching thing but to rather try something a little different. I have seen similar ideas on pinterest before using other shapes on the background, but decided to go with a car shape for my roadtrip photo.

I found a fairly simple clipart of a Beetle which I printed out on A4. I then simply laid this over my background and made holes all around the outline through both pieces of paper. Now that I had my outline  I turned to my distress oxide inks and used them as watercolour to paint in the beetle. I must say I am pretty chuffed with how it turned out. Once it was all dry I simple hand stitched all the lines in white thread... took a few hours in front of the tv!

I also found a car stamp that I have which I added to the bottom of my layout in three different colours of oxide...first up I stamped in orange but it was a bit toooooo watery so then I overstamped it in blue. Lastly I just touched the brown to the edges of my stamp and restamped it... this all gave a lovely layered effect.

To finish off my page I used a few bits of paper layered under my photo and then added some stickers for the title and embellishment, plus a bit of hand journalling.

So why not try something new too and see where it gets you.

Long weekend scrapping

We're nearing the end of May and I am behind in showing some of the pages I've done recently. Yikes! Over the long weekend at the end of April I was sooooooooo happy to have lots of time to scrap. I managed to get a few pages done.

Three of these were from inspiration from the facebook group "Scrap and Sell South Africa".  There were three sketches provided and I managed to do a page for each sketch.

I also managed to do a few single pages (some I have already posted) and this was one of them.

Getting pages done is a super duper achievement. Now off to tackle a few more.

ScrapPlezier - Travel

Another day for a reveal at ScrapPlezier.

I found a layout on Pinterest that sparked my interest and then decided to make my own. I used a black cardstock as my base with the Party Animals paper as my first background. I then layered small pieces of the other Kaisercraft collections for effect, before adding my photo.

To add extra interest I added some stencilled cogs across my page.

For my title I used various chipboard letters which I distressed using oxide inks. I did the same to a chipboard car to emphasize the roadtrip theme.

Lastly I added a few lines of journalling and a couple of rubons.

The oxide inks sure are fun to play with... need to experiment a bit more to get the full effect, but so far I am loving them.

Monochromatic love

I took part in the online crop from Scrapbook Generations during the first week of May... still have the whole month to get my layouts done,but this one I just had to share now.

The challenge was to do a mono-chromatic layout. Well I turned to my good old faithful Lady Pattern Paper for this one and then used the new sketch from Creative Scrappers. I simple adore how my page turned out.

I turned the sketch so that it would suit my photo better. I then found some leftover stamped and inked flowers that matched. I also punched a few hearts and added a bit of stitching and bling scattered around.

Creative scrapping at it's simplest and best!

Let's Scrap Sketch - 15 May

It's not often you find a sketch that just speaks to you... but that was me this week, and especially when I bought new paper that just worked so perfectly for the sketch too.

I used some of the new Ubud Dreams paper by Kaisercraft for my layout... I cut out the oversized doily for the shape on the sketch and then added some strips in various patterns of blue.  I even raided my stash of blue flowers.

 For my title I chose some letter stickers from my stash... and true to form I had already run out of "e"s but as I wanted to simulate the Greek writing, I simple used the "w" and turned them on their side... problem solved!

ScrapPlezier - Beach

Brrrrr..... it's turned cold the last few days... so here is a layout to warm things up just a little bit.

This layout is showcased on the ScrapPlezier blog today. Here's how I made it:

I turned to my leftovers from the Kaisercraft Rock Pool Collection. I die cut and punched these into various size circles before arranging them randomly on the page to surround my two photos. I added a few sea creatures and shells for extra interest as well as a couple of word strips. The lettering for mytitle is from the sticker sheet for this range.

I then also added a quote in two pieces in the Tiny Alphas from Kaisercraft.

So there you have it, a layout made out of leftovers from ages ago... at least I cleared one little bit more out of my stash drawer.
